These procedures verify whether the applicant has sufficient qualifications in a certain field to obtain the title of associate professor or professor.
An application for appointment as an Associate Professor for a specific field may be initiated by a Ph.D. with sufficient teaching experience, who demonstrates pedagogical and scientific competence in the habilitation procedure, defends his/her habilitation thesis and delivers a habilitation lecture before the Research Board of the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University. He/she is then approved and finally appointed by the University (or institution with approved accreditation) where the procedure is held.
An application for appointment as an Full Professor for a specific field may be initiated by an applicant, who has successfully completed his habilitation, is a prominent and recognized scientific figure in his field and is the author of significant scientific or artistic publications of an appropriate scope. Part of the appointment procedure is a lecture before the Research Board of the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University and then the Research Board of Charles University (or institution with approved accreditation), in which the applicant is to present in particular his concepts of work and teaching in the given field. After successful approval at all levels, the procedure is closed at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
