The field of Social, Cultural and Historical Anthropology combines two components of interdisciplinary anthropological studies, the first being the originally Anglo-Saxon line of cultural/social anthropology, which significantly expands the research field and methodology of the existing ethnology (ethnography) and connects it with the social sciences, especially sociology. The second is the originally German-language line of historical anthropology, which similarly extends the research tools and field of traditional history towards the history of everyday life, microhistory and cultural history. The interdependence of the two lines is so strong and self-evident in the international context that it justifies a specifically profiled habilitation and appointment procedure, which in the Czech environment completes the research and pedagogical development of the last few decades. The field of study corresponds to the educational areas of Historical Sciences and Sociology.
Habilitation or appointment procedures assess whether the candidate is a significant and respected researcher and teacher, involved also in the "third mission" of the university, and is therefore eligible for the title of "docent" or "profesor" of Charles University.
